What makes the holidays so special? It’s that feeling of being a kid waiting for Santa to come or waiting for those home-made cookies to come out of the oven while listening to holiday music and drinking hot cocoa.
Some people hate going shopping this time of year, but I actually enjoy it if I’m not in a rush. The stores are always decorated with bright, shiny colors and the music is cheerful. Then there are the aromas filling the air of fresh brewed coffees, Mrs. Fields cookies, and the cinnamon spice fragrance candles. It makes you want to try it all and take it home with you!Don’t forget the volunteers standing out in the freezing weather jingling their bells to get monetary donations dropped into the Salvation Army cans. Helping those in need are what it’s all about. Unfortunately, there are more people “in need” that most of us are aware of. The Marines usually have tables set up in shopping centers that you can drop off a new toy for a child who is less fortunate this season. Just skipping one Grande Peppermint Café Latte at Starbucks would be enough to buy a toy at Five Below to donate.
How about inviting that one person over for dinner that you know nobody else wants to entertain and will probably be spending the Holidays alone. You’d be surprised at how appreciative that person will be and how good you will feel for making someone’s life a little better if even for just one day. Happy Holidays…and Spread the Love!
